Happy Monday!

Hey there! Hope you all had a fabulous holiday and also found some great deals during the Black Friday sales. I didn't do any buying this year, but it was fun to watch the news, and see folks sleeping outdoors to get a deal. That always cracks me up. :)
I'll be shipping orders from my Black Friday sale starting 12/2....but there's still a chance to snag a few items on sale.

BLACK FRIDAY SALE!!!

I didn't know if I'd be able to host a black friday sale this year because I launched my {fall}{winter} 2010 collection a bit later than I normally do, and time really got the best of me.  But since I'm pretty much finished (just 1 small surprise left...hehehe) I decided that IT'S ON!

So get ready to shop some amazing deals on November 26th from midnight to 11 p.m. and you don't need a discount code for your savings to be applied! You'll be able to click the "Black Friday" tab on our site and stock up on all your favorite Bohemian Spirit Baubles! I will be sending out a newsletter reminder, so please be sure to get on our new newsletter list HERE.

My blogging will be sporadic or the next 8 days or so, but I'd like to wish you all a safe and happy Turkey Day!

*please note all orders placed between November 26th & December 2nd will be shipped out beginning on December 5th.

Follow up

In a previous blog post HEREI mentioned that I purchased the new Lauren Conrad Style book and that I'd let you all know if I liked it or not.  Well......I really LOVE it! She gives some great style tips on building your wardrobe, mastering your closet, getting dressed for all occasions, and packing for different types of trips.  This book really was right on time since I'll be leaving for a vacation in a few days, so her packing tips were very useful to me.  I literally made a copy of her "What To Pack" page and took it with me when I went to purchase essentials for my trip.

If you love the California casual style of dress with a twist, then I highly recommend getting this book...It even has great makeup tips that any woman can use.  Enjoy!

Happy Friday!

The weather has finally changed here in Southern California.  We got a bit of rain today and hopefully it will rain the rest of the weekend.  That's the beauty of living here...We get so much sunshine, that we actually enjoy rain and cooler weather every now and then. I don't have a lot planned this weekend....just a local birthday party, working on my son's astronomy project, and playing around with my new Nook Color .

I'll meet you all back here on Monday.  Have a great weekend!

Magazine feature

I was interviewed recently for Prominence Magazine! What a great pleasure it was speaking with the magazine's Editor and Founder Glenys Colclough. All I can say is I was so excited and honored to be in such a fabulous online magazine which I hear is slated to be a print magazine in 2011!  I'll definitely be subscribing because it's filled with lots of great information and phenomenal interviews. You can check out my interview HERE.

Do you love yourself?

I stumbled upon this brotha's blog & twitter page today. His name is Paul Carrick Brunson and he's the founder of a modern day coaching and matchmaking service called One Degree From me.  Below is a video that was on his blog titled "Do you love yourself?"  The title caught my attention immediately so I checked out the video.  I'll just say this, I do believe that it is imperative that we have self love before we decide to enter a committed relationship. Anyway, check out the video and let me know what you think.

Much to do

I have lots of work to do today and I didn't prepare a blog post last night because I was simply exhausted from completing orders, and responding to emails :(. I'm sending this post from my blackberry as I walk to the post office to mail orders, and to Coffee Bean for caffeine fuel. I'll be back to regular blogging tomorrow....hopefully :) Enjoy your Tuesday!

Crybaby me

I'm going to try and make this post as short as possible.

Hello, my name is Myisha and I'm a crier.  I cry at church.  I cry at weddings. I cry when I receive gifts. I cry during prayer and meditation.  I cry when my girlfriends hurt. I cry when my son is in a school play. To top it all off, I have a favorite person that I cry with.  Funny right? She is one of my closest girlfriends (I don't have many) and her name is Shannon.  Well actually her fiance' D was my friend first, but when he brought her over to our house last year on New Year's eve, we had an immediate bond.  She's the kind of girlfriend that you can cry with because you know she'll be there through it all.  So anyway Shannon graduated from Paralegal Studies school a few weeks ago (yay...so proud of her!) and at her graduation dinner she acknowledged all of the people who had assisted in helping her through school by presenting them with a gift and words from the heart.  Well I was totally surprised when she said my name!  So guess what I did??? Yep, I cried!  Of course my husband was there to capture me in my moment of vulnerability.  Shannon was crying too, but of course he didn't get that.

Dang! I was trying to hold those tears back, but she said some very sweet things, and she gave me a starbucks gift card and you know I love my coffee :)

Recent purchases

I consider myself a fairly frugal woman.  There are several changes that come along with leaving a full-time job and working for yourself.  Believe me, when I was working for someone else and I knew that a check was coming every 2 weeks...I bought whatever I wanted....Seriously!  But when you are running your own business you tend to watch every nickel and dime you earn.  The other day I decided that I needed and wanted a few things, and finally got around to purchasing them. Below are a few of the items I bought, and I'm super pleased with them all!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

7 Things I know for sure

I've received at least 10 emails over the past 2 weeks from women who need advice about starting a business, or building their business.  I'm always shocked when people email me for advice and/or guidance.  I'm absolutely flattered, and I always welcome it!  By all means, I am no expert.  I've made some of the silliest mistakes while building Bohemian Spirit Jewelry (formerly Brace Yourself Boutique), and I've even had days where I almost threw in the towel.  But I've definitely learned many lessons and just like the women who've emailed me...I've emailed many women myself while trying to figure out what the heck I was doing with my business.

So below I've listed 7 things I know for sure about building a business.  These are things that I've learned and figured out along the way.  As my husband would say, "You are building a plane while flying it." Lol!

Email me if you have a business question you'd like to ask.  I may not have the answer, but I may know someone who does!  I can be reached at: Bohemianspiritjewelry{at}gmail{dot}com.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.  Put your thoughts on paper.  Build a notebook of ideas and what you admire about other businesses.
2.  Be authentic!  There is nothing worse than trying to be like someone else.  It comes off phony, and it's not cool AT ALL!
3.  Be legit.  Create a business name, get your business license, seller's permit, etc.  Make sure you start off on the right foot.  It sets the tone for how your business will commence, and how you are seen as a business woman.
4.  Make sure you have a web presence.  These days you can build your own website.  It takes time but it can be done.  When I first started my business I built my own site because I didn't have money to pay a web developer.  You can do it! Just keep it simple and uncluttered.
5.  Purchase business cards.  If you want to be in business, you need to act like it.  A professional always has a business card and as a business owner, you should to!
6.  If you don't know, ask!  Believe me, you will save yourself from several business mishaps by seeking help from people who are experienced.
7.  Don't worry about what everyone else is doing.  If you love the business you are creating and you believe it will be successful...Have FAITH!  Everyone has their time to shine, and you will have yours too!
Its the little things....
And the joy they bring.  I got a new magazine in the mail today.  It's called Anthology and I must say it's quite beautiful.  When my son brought the mail in, I could see the magazine from a distance.  My heart started beating a little bit faster as I imagined curling up on the sofa with a cup of chai tea, while leisurely flipping through the magazine pages full of goodness.  Check it out HERE when you get a chance.  It's quite pricey at $12 per issue, but I'm worth it!
How appropriate that on the cover of the magazine it says "The Slow Life. Relax and Enjoy The Things That Really Matter."  Oh, I fully intend to. ;)
My freedom...
It has been just over a year since I quit my blood sucking 9 to 5.  Yes I said blood sucking! That job was killing me...Sucking the life right out of me! Killing my spirit, killing my creativity, killing my family, and killing my health.  I found myself always thinking of ways to escape the incarceration...literally.  You see, I'm a creative spirit, a free-spirit, a bohemian spirit :)  My mother is an artist, my father a musician, my grandmother a woman who can do anything with her hands.  I come from creative spirits and I was destined to be JUST THAT!  So here I am now, being ME.  Sipping coffee, making jewelry, running my farmer's market, crying with my best girlfriends over their accomplishments, laughing with my husband mid-week, dancing with my son in the morning.  It took me 36 years to get here, but I'm here dammit and I'm loving it!
My Mantra: Why are you trying so hard to fit in, when you were born to stand out?
