Rocking hats

Hats have been really in style this spring and it seems the trend will carry over into the summer. There are so many styles to choose from...Paper boy, fedora, sun hats...I just love it! I don't own many but my hubby does, so I borrow his all the time. Since my locs are thick it's hard for me to find women's hats that fit so I usually just wear his hats...he doesn't always like that because I usually snag the hat he was planning to wear for the day :0. Anyhow, I'm thinking of starting my own mini collection of hats. Below are some of my favorites. Do you guys own a lot of hats? Will you be wearing or purchasing any hats this summer?

Soul Food...

Don't get too excited yet....My title is a bit misleading since I'm not going to be discussing collard greens, corn bread, or yams, but the words, thoughts, and truths that we feed ourselves and others. I decided that right now is a great time to encourage yourself, your friends, and family. Why now??? Why not now???

So anytime I'm about to create a new collection of jewelry I spend a whole day out wandering. I don't really have specific plans (maybe a few errands) but I just drive and window shop until inspiration hits me. I've been really inspired by words and how a few can change a person's mood or life. I remember when I was working for a law enforcement agency and I was upset by the way people in my department were being treated. When I decided to move forward and file a grievance against the individual who was causing grief in our unit I was told that I should get ready for retaliation. Hmmmm, that didn't make sense to me. I was the one being mistreated, so why was I going to be retaliated against? Those words changed my life! The words I heard that day ended up setting me free. I'm thankful for the mistreatment and lack of compassion they displayed because I may have never resigned and set out to do what I LOVE! So now I feed my own soul with words of affirmation, and I keep little notes and inspirational items around me that remind me that I'm worthy, and doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. These words are my soul food. So while driving yesterday I decided that I wanted to create something that would encourage others, or give them their own piece of soul food to recite and receive. Only thing is I couldn't figure out how to possibly get more than 1 to 2 words into a piece of jewelry. Lol! But as my wheels kept spinning and the inspiration kept flowing, I realized what I wanted to create. Below are a few pictures. I'll be creating more with up to 15 different Soul Food messages over the next few weeks and updating them all to my website very soon! I'd love to know what you think.

Bohemian Biz Spotlight

Today's Bohemian Business Spotlight has some of the most gifted hands around, and the reason I know is because I've seen them in action on many occasions creating beautiful art. Tracey Ambrose of  Tracey Ambrose W.R.A.P. creates chic crocheted apparel and accessories that make you forget the stuff your grandma ever made. From shawls and tams, to rings and spa flops, this woman has taken yarn and its possibilities to a whole new level! Not only can she turn cotton to couture, but she has a way about her...you know what I mean right??? The type of woman who has her own sayings that you seem to pick up and use as your own, or the type of woman who can turn something so simple into something so ingenious and have everyone yearning to own it. Yep, that's the kind of gal she is! Read on to find out more about Tracey and you'll see why we think she's the bomb{dot}com.

1. I won't ask your age, but what was your favorite t.v. show to watch growing up?
OMG... Three's Company, Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The Cosby Show, SOUL TRAIN, American Bandstand, Kroft Superstars (HR Puff n Stuff, Hatsville, Sigman and The Sea Monster, etc.), Looney Toons, I Love Lucy, What's Happening, GOOD TIMES, Different Strokes, Facts of Life, Different World, FAME, Carol Burnet, Flip Wilson, Lawrence Welk (yeah?), Solid Gold,... okay you get the picture?  lol

2.  What gave you the AUDACITY to start a business?
Hmmmm?  That's kinda tricky because it really wasn't "my" idea.  What started off as a gift to an office manager as a going away gift.... to emailing a picture of an item to a friend of mine who just happened to be a boutique owner?  The "business" had started without me really knowing it?  The "audacity" of starting the business was nutured by this boutique owner "Darla" (of Darla's Closet Boutique).  Without the encouragement of "Darla", there would not be a Tracey Ambrose W.R.A.P. (PERIOD).  She created the surrounding/encouragement I needed to nuture and birth the vision.

3. Out of all the creative businesses you could have chosen to start, why did you choose _Hand Crocheted Accessories and Wearable Fashions?
The visions of hand crocheted designs come natural.  I humbly receive my visual patterns and give birth to them with skeins of yarn and hooks.

4. Lots of people want to be their own boss, however they don't understand that it really Is harder then it seems. What's your typical work day like?
Really?  It can/will vary.  Considering I work for corporate America, mother of 2 boys, wife.... I make the time after 8p.  Social networking, creating/crocheting NEW designs/orders, preparing for public events and trunk shows, etc.

5. How do you find the strength to persevere when the challenges seem to outweigh the rewards?
Take a nap, do something not related to the biz like go to a movie, go out with family, get a massage ... did I say TAKE A NAP and meditate/pray!!!

6. What inspires you?
Nature

7. What's your go to wine when it's time to unwind? :)
STARBUCKS!!!!

8. When it comes to the following words, what advice would you give?

*Work:  Think out the box while staying in your lane.
*Self:  Don't be so hard on yourself.
*Life:  Laugh - don't take it soooo serious that you miss opportunities for change and growth... enjoy the journey
*Love:  Be honest and pure
*Friends:  They are in our lives for reasons and seasons.

9. I define a Bohemian Spirit as someone who is free, unique, and unafraid to make her own stamp on the world. Why are you a Bohemian Spirit?
I am a Bohemain Spirit because my crocheted designs allows many shapes and sizes to enjoy my items with less limitations

Make-up in style...

I really need a new make-up bag, or a Dopp Kit as Karen Young, owner and designer behind Hammocks and High Tea calls them. I've been a fan of H&HT for a years and every now and then I drop by the website to check out the lovely textile patterns that Karen pours her heart into (as you can tell). I've never had cutesy or very stylish make-up bag, so I think I'll treat myself to one of these pretty little babies. I love everything about them!  My favorites are #1 and #2. What do you think...wouldn't it be nice to have a really cute make-up bag like these?

Mop Top looks...

I have a list of favorite blogs saved on my computer and they are daily must reads. If you ever want to know what I'm checking out, you can see my list of favorites here...I highly recommend them. Well one of my favorite blogs The Moptop Maven is no longer (at least until the author gets well I'm assuming) but I still love to check out Nikole's past updates. I would always look forward to her posts, and seeing what she wore out on the town with her girlfriend Lo. Below are some of my favorite Mop Top looks! I'm sure most of you were and still are a huge fans The Moptop Maven, but for those of you who aren't hip...check it out! It's a real treat to read about Nicole and her love for natural hair care, fashion, travel, cooking, and more. Get well Nikole...We miss you!

Summer wear...

Hey! Hope you guys had a great weekend....I didn't do anything too exciting, well really I didn't do anything exciting at all but that's just fine. I finally got around to putting air in my bike tires on Sunday and my little guy and I went for a ride. I love spending time with him because he always makes me smile (even when I'm in a funk) and keeps me young at heart :) While riding by some boutiques I noticed that the trend is definitely prints for the summer season. Floral, batik, and any kind of cultural prints seem to be splashed over everything.  I love it! I've always been into prints because they have such a bohemian vibe to them. I've been thinking of picking up a few printed dresses and tops for summer since I really like the look. What about you...do you like the new printed clothing that's out now?

Here are a few of my favorite looks.

The Weekend is here...

It's Friday...the 13th. Yikes! I'm not a superstitious person, but I must admit that I do cringe when the 13th falls on a Friday. The horror movie really scared me when I was young, so maybe that is why it's a bit creepy to me. But thankfully there has been nothing creepy about my day. I just finished getting a much needed massage and I'm headed to buy a couple of things for my new place. I've got a busy weekend of work to do (organizing, Sip n' Shop promo, working on my Bohemian Spirit summer collection) but I'm not complaining....Seriously! I'm just happy that there is some normalcy in my home finally and that I'm finally able to get some work done.

Well hopefully you guys don't work this weekend and do have an opportunity to get out and see a new exhibit, catch a concert, or lay out by the pool. Whatever your plans I hope you enjoy...with a cocktail of course ;)

Peek-a-boo Pictures

I know my regular blogging schedule has been totally shot over the past 2 weeks and I thought I'd be back to my regular posting schedule this week, but it just hasn't happened....Sorry :(  I've got a lot going on...the move, finalizing all of the Sip n' Shop details, and working on my new summer line for Bohemian Spirit. I'm going to resume all of the fun posts (Bohemian Style and Biz Spotlight, Inspirational and Biz Tips) soon I promise. I have had a little bit of time to get a few corners of our new space together, but there is still tons of work to do. I would like to have friends and family over soon to celebrate my little guys graduation from Elementary school, so I need to work day and night to get this place in shape. Wish me luck!  Below are just a few areas in our loft that I love so far.

I'm Back!

Hey guys! I've come up for a bit of air...finally. I'm so sorry for the long break. I really have missed blogging here and catching up on my daily blog reads. It sucks trying to read blogs and post on my blog from my blackberry. I'm at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf now typing this post since we don't have internet service yet. Luckily Coffee Bean is just across the street, so I don't have far to go. I'm still getting our loft together and unpacking boxes of everything!  It's been a tough job but I've finally got my office space neat, so I can at least start working on my Bohemian Spirit Summer Collection in the next week or so. I'm excited about getting back into the swing of things.  I get so frustrated when things aren't in order and I can't find a pair of pants to wear :0. The other night I wore a romper and a Janet Jackson style Rhythm Nation-esque hat out because I couldn't find anything else to wear...I was a hot mess ya'll! I haven't had any time to take pictures of our new place, but I'll be posting some later in the week. :) I really love how it's coming together despite the boxes and bags that are all over the place. Lol!

Anyhoo, I hope you mommies had a fabulous Mother's day! My guys took me to lunch and to see Something Borrowed with Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin. Have any of you seen that movie yet??? It was super cute and I think Ginnifer Goodwin is absolutely adorable. Next on my list is Water for Elephants with Reese Witherspoon...I heard that's a good one too. Any of you seen that one?

Still M.I.A.

Well this move has taken over my life...but I will be back to blogging soon. Hopefully by next week. Once things are back to normal (for me) I'll post pictures.  Until then, wishing you all a great rest of the week and an even better weekend!

P.S....I'll be having a HUGE sale next week over at Bohemian Spirit Jewelry, so stay tuned for the details on that.
