The art of stacking...

There will not be a Bohemian Biz Spotlight today, but I will have one for you all next week. I'm looking for more people to spotlight, so don't be shy....if you have a business and you are fabulous (which you are) email me so you can be featured here. It's great for exposure, and the readers love your inspirational answers to my awesome questions...hehehe. Email me for deets on being featured at: bohemianspiritjewelry{at}gmail{dot}com. Scroll through and read past BBS features that post every Wednesday...you'll be happy you did.

So today I wanted to share with you the art of "stacking." When I say stacking I mean layering your BSJ bracelets to make a statement. You can coordinate your stack to match your oufit, or you can just put on your faves and throw matching to the wind (my favorite way of doing it!). However you like to wear your baubles there is definitely an art to it!!! Did that sound a bit dramatic? Well as a jewelry designer I place great emphasis on proper stacking and I always check out wrists when I'm out and about to see it people are using the best stacking techniques. ;) Below are some tips on how to layer up for the summer.

*For best results use Bohemian Spirit Jewelry :)

1. Start by putting on your favorite bracelet and then build from there.
Brown Effervescent Bracelet

2. Then add a very unique bracelet to the mix.

3. Add a solid color bracelet (preferrably a color that's represented in the stack you have on).

4. Then tone it back down with a bracelet that is similar to the first one you put on.

Back to me...

I've been feeling a little distant lately. Not like myself. My post have been lackluster (to me at least) and I haven't really been inspired to do much of anything. It's such a yucky feeling! I hate it! Anyhow, today I've committed to break out of my funk, and get back to myself. Yay! I had such an awesome weekend, and I was surrounded by so many beautiful and positive women and it just put everything back in perspective for me. Life is such a beautiful journey and sometimes things are not always what you want them to be, but that's the beauty of it....we have to go with the flow and sometimes the flow isn't always peaches and cream. So I'm embracing my little "week long funk" that I had, and now I'm moving forward in positivity, love, optimism, and most of all peace!

So now on to what I did this weekend. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera but you can see some of the pictures from the Scentsational Soaps launch party I attended HERE and HERE. The owner of Scentsational was my first Bohemian Biz Spotlight feature, so If you didn't catch it you can read all about Toushounta HERE. Then after the launch party I hung out with good friends and family in the Long Beach harbor area on a mini-yacht :) Super fun times!

Cooking it up!

The weekend is here! We are going to have some pretty hot temperatures in Southern California ranging in the high 80's to low 90's and I'm really not looking forward to it, but I guess I have no say in the matter, right?!?! Well while the sun is cooking me this weekend, my little guy will literally be cooking downstairs from our loft at the Young Chefs Academy! He started attending last week and he absolutely loves it! I couldn't believe the cuisine menu that they have planned for these kids...It's really quite awesome!! All throughout the month of June they will prepare Hawaiin cuisine, and next month is a celebrity chef meal theme. I'm talking Rachel Ray, Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, etc., etc.,....It's quite fancy.  Makes me wish there were classes like this when I was growing up. Anyhow, he came home quite excited last week and I'm just happy that he's learning how to make things other than eggs and grilled cheese sandwiches :)

I'll be doing a few fun things this weekend and I'll probably tote my camera with me to snap a few shots. I'll meet you all back here on Monday for a re-cap :) What do you all have planned?

Have a lovely weekend!!!

1. I won't ask your age, but what was your favorite t.v. show to watch growing up? Mr. Belvedere

2. What gave you the AUDACITY to start a business? I was tired of working for someone else. To be frank, and I love creating beauty.

3. Out of all the creative businesses you could have chosen to start, why did you choose Eclectic Creations? I choice Eclectic Creations because of my love for creations…Even though, I started designing jewelry there is so much more I plan to offer in the near future…

4. Lots of people want to be their own boss, however they don't understand that it really Is harder then it seems. What's your typical work day like? A typical work day?? WOW!
The easiest way to explain it is I work all day in my sleep and running errands.

I had to force myself on a work schedule, so now I am working from 7-10 p m (yeah! Right).

5. How do you find the strength to persevere when the challenges seem to outweigh the rewards? I believe in my talents and I think every challenge is some sort of reward, good or bad it is up to me to figure out the two.

6. What inspires you? Everything, I am inspired by the many of the fellow INDIES ladies. We love to travel and I have been across country twice, from South Carolina to Las Vegas and Mohave Desert
…so I find inspiration in others and through my travels as well.

7. What's your go to wine when it's time to unwind? :) My soft bed!

8. When it comes to the following words, what advice would you give?

Work: 24/7 all day everyday…
Self: (Open) To be open to new ideas is very important.
Life: Enjoy it…
Love: PEACE & Olive oil
Friends: Are for life…

9. I define a Bohemian Spirit as someone who is free, unique, and unafraid to make her own stamp on the world. Why are you a Bohemian Spirit?  For many of the same reasons, the universe has offered me infinite possibilities, the hardest thing for me to do is decided which star I am going to write my name on!

Weekday excursion

Hope you all had a great weekend. I didn't do anything exciting enough to discuss...mostly just house and work stuff. However I did take a fun little trip with my little guy last week on Wednesday. One of the greatest things about our new neighborhood is that we are 1 block away from the train station, so it makes for easy trips to Los Angeles. I absolutely love that because I don't care for driving, so when the hubby is busy and can't taxi us around we can just hop on the train and explore the city.  We spent the day on Olvera street in the downtown Los Angeles which is a historic Mexican style plaza. We shopped, ate, and took tons of pictures...well I took tons of pictures of him. After a while he said "Mom, no more pictures please." Lol! He's growing up so fast, and I'm just trying to keep up and capture every moment.

Other than that I'm kinda relieved to have my office semi-organized...At least enough where I can work comfortably. I'm looking forward to making it more cozy, but for now it will have to do. What did you all do this past weekend?!?! Was the weather decent enough in your area to get out and explore???

Bohemian Style Spotlight

I know this comes out of schedule since I normally do the Bohemian Style Spotlight on Tuesday, but since I haven't done it in quite a while I figured I'd end the week with it. Maybe it will be a source of inspiration for a weekend outfit. All of the looks below are from Free People. If you are looking for a vintage bohemian look, Free People designs some of the most spot on boho fashions that I've seen. They can be a bit pricey so I love to browse their site and then try and find a similar and less expensive piece at Nordstrom (who also carries Free People), Forever 21 or Target, but it's nice to look and be inspired. Where do you go for your boho fashions??? I definitely need some other sources.

Have a great weekend!

Bohemian Spirit Give-a-way time!!!

Good Morning! I'm excited about the end of the week approaching because I'm planning on having a little wind down time this weekend. I pre-paid for a massage last week and I can't wait to receive it. I'm looking forward to having someone work all of these knots and kinks out of my shoulders and back. When I prepare a new collection there's so much anticipation (for me at least) and thought that goes into it and I sometimes become a bit stressed. Although the process of creating is fun for me, I still have a bit of angst about whether my pieces will be well received. Anyhoo, I've already figured out one of the summer favorites from my new collection, and it's the Swirl Bracelet. So guess what??? One lucky person will win it next week! Don't worry about what you have to wear with it....this is the Free to be Bohemian Me blog, so you can wear it freely...anyway you like...don't worry about being matchy matchy...there's liberation in letting go sometimes. ;)

Okay, okay, so without further ado...here are the entry rules:

1. Entry to win: Like the BSJ Facebook "Like" page & have your friends "like" the page too. They can comment under the swirl bracelet picture on FB that you referred them. Ex: Myisha referred me to "like" this FB page. (Each friend that mentions your name is an additional entry for you :)

AND Comment here on how you found out the Free to be Bohemian Me blog.

2. More ways to enter to win: 2. Subscribe to my newsletter please... http://tinyurl.com/3h76nh5 (Your chance of winning are greater)

Bohemian Biz Spotlight

When Glenda first inquired about being in the spotlight on the "Free to be Bohemian Me" blog she wanted her spotlight to be more about her cause and not about her. Well I think Glenda's cause is super special and it says a lot about who she is as a person. Glenda Harrison is the Founder of A Daughter's Heart, Inc., which is a Not-for-profit organization that delivers comfort, encouragement, and support to women diagnosed with cancer. Her organization has grown since 2008 and now reaches over 400 women each year! In her bio it states that she has often been quoted in saying "It is my hope that women will never stop loving themselves, even when the fight is strong." Anyone whose business savvy is to help those in need is definitely considered a Bohemian Spirit in my book! Read more about Glenda and the great work she does below...Enjoy!

1. I won't ask your age, but what was your favorite t.v. show to watch growing up?
I don't mind sharing my age. I'm a very proud 45 year old! I feel better both physically and emotionally than I did in my 20's and 30's. I'm one of the few women in this world who refuses to dye my hair. I love my silver strands. As a matter of fact, I think they enhance my wardrobe. I wear alot of silver jewelry and it looks great with my silver hair : ). But to answer your question, I remember a silly little puppet show that I adored called H.R. Puff and Stuff; and Captain Kangaroo.

2.  What gave you the AUDACITY to start a business?
Hmmm, to be say the word audacious is saying that one was quite brave in pursuing. I wasn't brave at all. As I matter of fact, I never considered launching a not-for-profit until I lost my mother to cancer. So, no, it wasn't bravery but a broken heart.

3. Out of all the creative businesses you could have chosen to start, why did you choose A Daughter's Heart?
I didn't choose A Daughter's Heart, A Daughter's Heart chose me. At the age of 28, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and was given 6 months to live. Prior to my mother's illness, we shared very fond mother and daughter moments that I didn't want to expire just because my time with her was coming to an end. My mother was a very attactive woman that took great care of herself physically and spiritually. The cancer treatments were very cruel to her physically...hair loss, weight loss and so many other dreadful symptoms that changed my mothers physical appearance. However, in spite of what she had to endure, my mother's spirit remained beautiful. The slogan/motto for A Daughter's Heart is: "If you have to fight cancer...Fight it beautifully!" is birthed from what I experienced with my mother. I learned that true beauty has nothing to do with ones outer self because we know how quickly ones looks can be stolen; but everything to do with ones spirit...something that cannot be taken from you.
Since my mother's passing in 1995, I had wanted to do something for women with cancer. In the summer of 2008, I began to ponder the direction of my life. I was working as a fashion/style columnist for a local newspaper (my background and education is from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising). I thought that writing about fashion and style was my dream, but that 2008 summer, my focus began to change and God whispered in my ear the carefully laid plans to launch A Daughter's Heart. When I began to tell persons about what I wanted to do, the response was very supportive and people in my circle of friends, and beyond, began to offer their expertise and support. We're now moving into our 3rd year of service and have reached over 350 women fighting cancer with our Love Pouch at our partner hospitals: Methodist Hospital and Loma Linda University Medical Center and many women in the USA. The Love Pouch is a special gift we provide to women with cancer that includes items that will comfort their spirit/soul, mind and body while they're on that cancer journey.

4. Lots of people want to be their own boss, however they don't understand that it really Is harder then it seems. What's your typical work day like?
(LOL) Typical. I don't have a typical day. Ok, lets see. I start my day at 5:45am with a morning workout. Then I get myself and family ready for work/school. Everyday is a day of something unique. I could have a day of endless phone calls and emails that need to be answered; Receiving shipments of donations and items for the Pouches; Preparing for Board of Directors Meetings; Organizing our community service days called Loving Ful-fill-ment Day; And the year long process of organizing our Annual Fundraiser called Jazz to the Heart; and continual prayer...thank goodness there is a Pastor on the Board : ). I have four calendars that keep me on point. I try to not work on Fridays and weekends and had to create office hours of Monday - Thursday from 9am - 3pm, but because of the nature of what I do, that changes from time to time. Especially when I receive a phone call from a woman with cancer, or someones friend or family member just needing to talk.

5. How do you find the strength to persevere when the challenges seem to outweigh the rewards?
I gain my strength from seeing the smiles; or the look in the eyes; or hearing the reports from women who have been touched by our service.

6. What inspires you?
Who inspired me: My mother. What inspires me: Conversations with people who have great ideas and make them happen.

7. What's your go to wine when it's time to unwind? :)
A tall class of Coke Classic with alot of crushed ice : )

8. When it comes to the following words, what advice would you give?

Work: Never let work elude you.
Self: Get yourSELF out of the way.
Life: Life is short so enjoy it.
Love: If you know God you know Love.
Friends: I have many friends for different areas of my life: shopping, lunching, business advice, spiritual council. I wouldn't try to interchange them - they are who they are.

9. I define a Bohemian Spirit as someone who is free, unique, and unafraid to make her own stamp on the world. Why are you a Bohemian Spirit?
While persons told me to work behind a cubical for the rest of my life, I chose to bring LIFE to women who need it most.

 Glenda K. Harrison
A Daughter's Heart, Inc.
A bedside cancer support service/ministry that partners with hospitals to bring comfort, hope and life to women fighting cancer.

Weekend woe & more...

Hey all! Hope you had a good weekend. The weather was a bit weird here in Southern California. Sunny, but a bit cool, and then some rain on Sunday....don't know where the rain came from but it was very odd.  Anywho, I didn't get much work done like I had planned...I guess I just wasn't in the mood. My Dad has been in town for the past 3 weeks and he left on Saturday, so we (me, D, & Myles) always have a little Debbie downer moment when he leaves town. His energy is so contagious and we just enjoy having him around. I'm so blessed to have a Father who is healthy and vibrant, and although he lives in Cleveland, Ohio he visits at least 3 times per year. We so appreciate what he brings to our family and what I love most is that he loves my husband to pieces.

I did manage to pick up the pieces Saturday afternoon and get out of the house and have some fun. On Saturday my girlfriend Monica and I went to a business mixer at Belly Sprout in Fullerton. It was such a cute little mommy/baby boutique and I met some really nice people there. Then we headed to an outdoor vendor event because we wanted to check it out, but mostly we wanted to taste the lobsta rolls from the from the Lobsta food truck. Umm hello...can you say super damn delicious?!?! After we decided not to buy another lobsta roll at $12 each...yikes! we headed off to have a real dinner and dessert.  It was a great girls evening out filled with laughter, chocolate, and a smidgen of shopping ;).  On Sunday I took myself to the movies to see Bridesmaid and ran errands.

So what did you lovelies do this weekend?

Dad peace-ing us out.

Love this idea!
