Bohemian Style Spotlight

How fabulously bohemian is actress Joy Bryant?? I've been a fan of Joy since seeing her in the Antwone Fisher movie with Denzel Washington in 2002. Shortly after I also became a fan of her fashion sense. She seems to be a very low maintenance person, wearing minimal make-up and comfy clothing at all times. Although her look is simple, it always has a very boho chic and pulled together look to me.  When it's time to ramp up the fabulousness, she goes all out with full on bohemian glam fashion! Love her bohemian style!

Over the weekend...

Can you believe how fast the weekend went by? I can't! It seems as if the two events I mentioned here took up more prep time than I expected, but I had so much fun at both. Later in the week I'll share some photos of the Essential Wood Designs Launch party that I attended and participated. It was such a successful event and everything looked absolutely beautiful!

Anyhoo, I've decided to switch up the blog schedule...just to keep things fresh ;) I hope that you all will continue to follow along and I thank you for your warm blog comments and emails you send my way. I'm signing off now to finish up another boutique order (Yay!!!!!) that will be shipping this week. BSJ is now officially in 4 boutiques in Southern California. Our button and flower earrings have been selling like crazy at Nina Fleurina Boutique in Claremont, and my tagline bracelets sold out the 2nd day at DenM Boutique & Gallery. This is an exciting time for me and I'm looking forward to revealing the new fall collection to everyone very soon.

The weekend is here...

Hello all! I stepped away for a few days to catch up on tons of stuff. My little guy starts school next week so we've been preparing for that (enrollment, school shopping, school tour, etc.) which I'm sure you Mommies know can be exhausting. I've also been working diligently on my fall collection, and sprucing up the blog and website a bit. Sometimes I just need to block out a few days and really get down to business.

So what's on your agenda this weekend??? I don't have too much going on...I'll be showcasing some of my new fall pieces tomorrow at my girlfriends launch party for her new business Essential Wood Designs, then I have a wedding to attend on Sunday...I love weddings! Well I hope you all have a fabulous weekend doing something you love. See you all on Monday with a fresh and new "Free to be Bohemian Me" blog posting schedule. :)

Enjoying my new fall hair :)

Fall loc love...

I recently dyed my locs black and I love them! I was a little nervous at first, but I realized that it's just a hair color change and If it doesn't work out then I can always dye them another color. I think the change came about because I'm so ready for fall weather and all that comes with it...layering, scarves, earth tones, cool air, and beautiful trees. Below are some photo's that inspired my color change.

Create your mark...

Sorry, there isn't a Bohemian Biz Spotlight today which leads me to the topic I'd like to discuss. Are you creating your mark on the world? If you are, then YOU should definitely be in the Bohemian Biz Spotlight. Email me at bohemianspiritjewelry{at}gmail{dot}com and in the subject line put "BBS." Then just drop me a few lines about what you do. I look forward to hearing from all you fabulous creators!

p.s. The BBS is open to all do-ers. It does not have to be a big creation or a large business. The emphasis is on women who have taken a chance and began doing what they love (full or part time). Read past spotlights (up and over) ------> to see how past BBS spotlights get down :)

Another summer outing...

Sorry for my absense yesterday... I was wandering the city in search of inspiration for my upcoming fall collection. Luckily I have several sample pieces made but I still need more. Anyhoo, I'm good now and back on track.

Now on to something fun...Last week hubby, son, and I headed downtown Los Angeles to check out the "Art in the Streets" exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). We all really enjoyed the exhibit and had a great time discussing what we liked afterwards. Unfortunately the exhibit ended on August 8th, but if it comes to your town I recommend checking it out.

Less is more....

Since our move a few months ago a lot has changed. Because we are now living in a loft I have to be crafty about storage options. There are NO closets here, so that definitely was something that posed an issue when we first moved in. I went from having a walk-in closet to having a wardrobe. Not 2 or 3 wardrobes but 1! Since I've been on this whole less is more kick {which I truly love by the way}, I've scaled down tremendously. I realized that my old closet was filled with stuff that I rarely ever wore and really didn't need. Anyhow, through the process of decluttering I've gotten rid of 70+ pairs of shoes, goo gobs of clothing, and sold most of my designer handbags. Believe it or not I feel like a weight has been lifted. I now only own things that I actually wear and it all {amazingly} fits in my 1 Ikea wardrobe.

Well last night I did an overhaul on my wardrobe to make sure I was re-hoarding again and I was...Lol! I bagged up 3 grocery sacks of stuff that I wasn't wearing and donated them this morning! I also had my little  guy do the same. I now have room to purchase a few new Autumn staples...hehehehe :)

Summer outings...

My little family enjoys summer outings. We've always been the type of family who loves to explore our city and surrounding areas too! Thanks to a husband who likes driving, we get to do and see different things quite often. Last week my hubby and I enjoyed a Brandford Marsalis concert in Orange County at the Great Park. It's a beautiful park with lots to do for young and old...hot air balloon rides, merry-go-round, food eateries, outdoor bar, and great musical acts throughout the summer. We didn't get to go on the hot air balloon ride that evening, but we are planning on going back soon to try it out. I tried to capture some of the fun stuff at Great Park. Have any of you S. Cali folks been? If so, what did you think?
