1. I won't ask your age, but what was your favorite t.v. show to watch growing up?
Lol! I loooved watching A Different World! I love the different characters, the comedy, and the positive view of African Americans in college. Made a big impression on me. Makes me want to watch that show now...lol.
2. What gave you the AUDACITY to start a business?
It has always been a dream of mine to have my own business but I never acted on it until after I had my babies. I decided to be a stay at home mom, and after conveniently being laid off, I began the life of a stay at home mom of twins. I often hear that mothers become lost in their role as 'mother' or 'wife' etc. and we forget to pay attention to and celebrate ourselves! I decided amongst the craziness that I would find time to pay attention to 'me' as a woman and child of God and reach out to inspire others as well!
I love unique jewelry and things with a positive message. So I decided to create bright and colorful jewelry with a positive message to bring out and celebrate the beauty in each of us! I have been making jewelry every since!
3. Out of all the creative businesses you could have chosen to start, why did you choose inspirational jewelry?
I love creating with my hands and owning unique accessories that very few others own. Seeing the beautiful jewelry that I create and that it inspires other women brings such joy to me and motivates me to testify to others through my jewelry!
4. Lots of people want to be their own boss, however they don't understand that it really Is harder then it seems. What's your typical work day like?
I don't have a typical day, lol! For the most part, I am taking care of my little ones and getting on the internet or working on jewelry when I get a chance. On days that they go with grandma, I drop them off, run to craft stores, come home, organize and jot down new ideas. Make new pieces, and take pictures if needed. Checking facebook, twitter, email, and blogging as time permits. Oh yeah and of course I eat! Lol!
5. How do you find the strength to persevere when the challenges seem to outweigh the rewards?
I ask God to keep me motivated and focus on the greater purpose. This always bring me back to the reality that God and therefore I can handle ANYTHING.
6. What inspires you?
God, my beautiful babies, and family. Seeing other women owning their own businesses, living their dreams, and striving. Music, theatre, dance, poetry, butterflies, calla lilies...the beautiful color purple. So many things inspire me! lol
7. What's your go to wine when it's time to unwind? :)
No drinking for me since the babies. ;-)
8. When it comes to the following words, what advice would you give?
Work: Do what you love. Stay focused, research, research, and research some more! Find a great mentor or two!
Self: Cherish yourself and take care of you first before anyone else. Love you.
Life: Life is a Journey, live it!
Love: Love earnestly and with an open heart. Spread love and it will come back to you.
Friends: True friends are such a blessing. If you have them, hold tight. Tell them you love them today. Be the type of friend you wish to have. And...keep people around that will uplift you!
9. I define a Bohemian Spirit as someone who is free, unique, and unafraid to make her own stamp on the world. Why are you a Bohemian Spirit?
I am stepping out on faith and creating a presence in the world with the gifts God has given to me to fulfill my purpose. Daily I look for ways to be creatively unique and express it in a beautiful and positive way! I won't say I'm not afraid, but I am moving forward in spite of! Thank you Jesus!
There will be more to come! Be on the lookout! ;) Peace and love to all of you!
